The Living Story of the Everett Beauregard Foundation

Where paths cross, possibilities are fostered and futures take shape.

Chapter 6: The Significance of Belonging

One of the challenges of talking about belonging is that its impact is often invisible. We can see the crisis that happened, but not always the crisis that never did. The young person who found a mentor instead of a negative influence. The student who stayed connected to a team, a library, or a music program when they might have drifted away.

Research tells us that these connections matter. They are among the factors most closely associated with positive outcomes and reduced involvement in violence.

The ripple begins with a simple but powerful idea: someone feels like they belong. In many ways, that understanding is what led to the creation of this foundation. We believed then, and continue to believe now, that changing the course of a life is not always something you can measure. Sometimes the greatest impact is found in the crisis that never occurs, the opportunity that appears because of a relationship, or the future that unfolds differently because someone felt they belonged.

Legacy in action.

The Aggregate Story

Our partner organizations tell us how many young people they served. They measure program hours, track mentor engagement, count community partnerships, and report on the number of locations where opportunities are available. Those numbers matter. They tell an important part of the story.

What those numbers don't tell us is what it felt like for a young person to walk into a room and realize they belong there. They don't capture the relief of finding a place where your name is remembered. These are the moments made possible by organizations that create welcoming spaces, caring relationships, and opportunities for young people to connect.

When someone donates to the EBF, they are helping support those organizations and the environments they make possible. What is difficult to count, but what probably "counts" the most, are all the ways those investments continue outward through families, friendships, classrooms, neighborhoods, and futures. The ripple may never appear in a report, but it lives on in the relationships, choices, and possibilities that begin with something as simple and powerful as belonging.

The Story Behind the Story

At the Everett Beauregard Foundation, we believe belonging is built in the moments people share. The Community Quest is our way of creating more of those moments, bringing friends, families, and neighbors together through experiences that deepen connection and community.  Like our partners, we believe that stronger communities begin with stronger connections.
