The Living Story of the Everett Beauregard Foundation

Where paths cross, possibilities are fostered and futures take shape

Chapter 3: Why Philadelphia

Growing up in Malvern offered many advantages for Everett. It was a community with resources, opportunity, and a path that could have comfortably carried him through young adulthood. But Everett was never interested in staying only where life was easiest or most familiar. He was intentional about seeking experiences that would broaden his perspective and connect him with people whose backgrounds and stories were different from his own.

That intentionality led him to Temple University, where he found in Philadelphia's neighborhoods the diversity and authenticity he craved. Over time, his connection to the city grew deeper. Philadelphia was not simply where he attended college. It became home. It became the place where he developed lasting friendships, discovered new perspectives, and built the life he envisioned for himself.

That is why the Everett Beauregard Foundation focuses its support exclusively on Philadelphia organizations.  Philadelphia gave Everett a community that profoundly shaped his life. Through the Foundation, we carry that forward by investing in opportunities that help young people build relationships, find their place, and develop the sense of belonging that allows them to thrive.

Legacy in Action

The aggregate story

This September, the Everett Beauregard Foundation will respond to requests from young patrons of the Charles Durham Library by providing specific books they have asked to see added to the collection. Located near Powelton Village, one neighborhood Everett called home during his years in Philadelphia, the library serves a community that reflects the connections and sense of belonging that meant so much to him.

Being a small foundation we can be quick and nimble to fill a need.  As our library liaison put it, “When readers want books, we want to move quickly to get them into their hands.”

As part of our book donation, we've included handwritten bookmarks filled with notes of encouragement for young readers. We hope these simple messages remind them that just as every book has a place waiting for them to return, they have a place waiting for them in their community.

The Story Behind the Story

Our original book donation to the library included many of Everett's favorite books. Learning that some of those same titles have since been requested as additional copies by young readers is incredibly meaningful. It is a reminder that the stories that once resonated with Everett are now connecting with a new community of readers.
